RTO Fines in Kerala 2026: Complete List of Traffic Violations, Penalties and Updated Rules

Much like other states and UTs across the country, Kerala also imposes fines for violations of RTO regulations. While the quantum of these fines falls under the purview of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, certain modifications have been introduced by the Transport Department, Government of Kerala.

To operate any private or commercial vehicle on public roads in Kerala, it is mandatory to strictly adhere to all regional transport office regulations; this ensures road safety and guarantees that all drivers operate their vehicles in full compliance with the law.

Violations of these regulations attract fines, the amounts of which vary depending on the specific nature of the offence. Here, we have outlined the RTO fines applicable in Kerala in 2026 and have also provided a full guide on how to make the payment if you incur a fine for any RTO rule violation.

How to pay the RTO fines in Kerala?

In the event of any violation of RTO regulations resulting in a fine being levied against your vehicle, you have two options for payment: you can either visit your RTO, where your vehicle is registered, to make the payment in person, or you can pay online through the e-challan portal or via the ‘mParivahan’ mobile application.

The procedure for paying traffic fines in Kerala via the e-Challan portal and the mParivahan mobile application is outlined below.

Through the e-challan portal:

  • First, visit the e-Challan portal. On the homepage, you will see an option labelled “Pay Online”; click on it.
  • Now, enter your vehicle number, challan number, or DL (driving licence) number, and click on the “Get Details” option.
  • All your pending fines will now be displayed before you. Click on the “Pay Now” button corresponding to the specific fine you wish to settle.
  • Finally, select one of the provided payment gateways to complete the payment.

Through the mParivahan mobile application:

  • Download the ‘mParivahan’ application for your Android or iOS device from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Launch the application; if your mobile number is not already registered, please register it.
  • After registering, log in to the application using your mobile number. Once logged in, you will see an option labelled ‘Pay Fine’; click on it.
  • You will then need to enter your vehicle number, challan number, or DL (Driving Licence) number, after which a list of your pending challan will appear.
  • To pay a specific fine, simply click on the ‘Pay’ option located next to it to complete the payment.

What if Kerala RTO fines aren’t paid on time?

In Kerala, if a fine is imposed following a violation of any RTO rule, it is mandatory to pay it within 15 days; failure to do so results in the imposition of penalties and, in certain instances, may even lead to the issuance of court summons. Furthermore, if your challan remains pending for an extended period, your Driving Licence may be suspended.

To legally drive any vehicle on public roads, whether in Kerala or anywhere else in the country, it is mandatory to possess a valid Pollution Under Control certificate. If you allow fines associated with your vehicle to remain pending, you will be unable to renew your PUC certificate, which will inevitably lead to further complications down the line.
