The road tax payment is mandatory when purchasing a new vehicle, regardless of whether it is intended for private or commercial use. If you purchase any vehicle within Delhi, you are required to pay the applicable road tax in addition to its ex-showroom price.
The road tax rates vary for different types of vehicles; the exact amount you need to pay depends on the specific vehicle you intend to purchase. Here, we have discussed the road tax in Delhi for all types of vehicles, so please ensure you read the article thoroughly.
Road Tax In Delhi
In Delhi, road tax for vehicles is levied in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. The payment required depends on the type of vehicle you are purchasing; there is a difference between the road tax applicable to private vehicles versus commercial ones.
Furthermore, for many vehicles, the tax is paid as a lump sum covering a period of 10 to 15 years, while for others, it must be paid periodically over a specific duration.

- For a two-wheeler priced at ₹75,000 or less, the road tax is 4% of its ex-showroom price; for a vehicle priced between ₹75,000 and ₹200,000, it is 6%; and for one priced above ₹200,000, it is 8%.
- Furthermore, if the two-wheeler is electrically powered, whether it is a scooter or a bike, then in that scenario, there is no road tax; however, this rule is set to remain in effect until 2030.
